Mr. Schmalzle regularly practices in several jurisdictions in Northern Virginia including Loudoun County, Fairfax County, Clarke County, Frederick County and the City of Winchester. Mr. Schmalzle attended East Stroudsburg University in East Stroudsburg Pennsylvania where he attained a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy. After college, Mr. Schmalzle moved to southern Florida. While in Florida, Mr. Schmalzle managed several successful restaurants and night clubs. After Mr. Schmalzle opened and established one new, successful night club, he was hired to implement a similar business plan in a stalling restaurant and night club. Despite the success of the businesses and Mr. Schmalzle’s enjoyment in building them, he never veered from his plan to attend law school.
Mr. Schmalzle left southern Florida and attended law school at George Mason University School of Law in Arlington, Virginia. Mr. Schmalzle built on the life experience he gained as a business manager in Florida to excel in law school. Mr. Schmalzle was an editor on the school’s premier law journal, the George Mason Law Review. Additionally, Mr. Schmalzle was a member of George Mason’s Moot Court Board. While serving on the Moot Court Board, Mr. Schmalzle represented George Mason University School of Law at a moot court competition on constitutional law in Madison, Wisconsin and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the competition. In his final year at George Mason, Mr. Schmalzle instructed first year law students in legal research and writing as a Legal Writing Fellow.
After law school, Mr. Schmalzle accepted an offer to work with a large, prestigious firm in the District of Columbia. Mr. Schmalzle worked with firm’s insurance litigation group, and advised clients on issues relating to Directors and Officers Liability Insurance Policies, Errors and Omissions Liability Insurance Policies, and General Commercial Liability Policies. Mr. Schmalzle routinely worked with liability insurance policies with yearly policy limits up to $1,000,000,000.
Mr. Schmalzle left the corporate feel of the large firm in favor of building a practice that allowed him more direct interaction with individuals and business owners. Mr. Schmalzle enjoys engaging with real people with real legal problems and helping them solve those problems in a practical way. Consequently, Mr. Schmalzle started his own practice in Leesburg, Virginia and shortly thereafter accepted an offer to continue building his practice with Whitbeck & Cisneros, P.C.
